When we moved into our new home, we were lucky to get a side entrance with a large mud room. I was determined to use this as the main entrance (for us) to try to keep my cluttered front door entrance clean. This hasn't been the case. So I decided that if I were to put a bench, some hooks and baskets for the winter stuff then we would start using it more.
I didn't want a fancy bench as this is where my kids will be putting on their winter boots and I didn't want to have to worry about it getting dirty. So we went to Ikea to look for some shelves to put above the bench and decided to use a shelf for the bench too.
We purchases the Ikea Expedit shelf in white (wanted to keep it bright in there) and 6 Ikea kitchen cabinet feet. We assembled the shelf as per the instructions and then attached the cabinet feet at the four corners and then two in the middle. Very easy!
The kids stand on this as it is very sturdy and it wipes clean easily. I debated making a cushion for the top of the bench or covering it with fabric, but again I will always be worried the kids will get it dirty. This way I don't have to yell "Keep your feet off it!" :)
As you can see I have only two of my burlap drawers, but I do have one more empty box ready to be transformed. I am starting to hate those pizzas!
On a side note...Did you notice my weights in the corner? Do you see what they are being used for? To hold the french door into the mud room open :) Do they really have any other purpose? Not in this house :)
Have a great day!
Stephanie
